Gilas Youth routs Malaysia, to face Korea in FIBA Asia U16 KO stage
The Gilas Pilipinas Youth scored a big 75–52 win over Malaysia in their final game of the FIBA U16 Asian Championship group phase in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday (early Wednesday morning in Manila).
Kiefer Alas had a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds while Kurt Nathan Velasquez added an all-around line of 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Elijah Williams had nine points and nine assists, while four other players scored at least six in balanced showing for coach Josh Reyes’ boys.
The young Gilas controlled the game from the start, going on a 29–8 first quarter tear which set the tone in the blow-out victory.
The Philippines finished with a 2–1 card in Group D and shall now face South Korea in a knockout match on Thursday (early Friday morning in Manila) for the right to face Japan in the quarterfinals the next day.
